The Mobile Wireless Internet Group is seeking a RESEARCH ENGINEER to be involved in two different projects. The researcher will be involved in the projects:

H2020 TERMINET project, where i2CAT has to design and implement a prototype IoT solution that includes terminals and a gateway, using IoT protocols based on the Recursive InterNetwork Architecture (RINA) to:

  • Understand the requirements of the use cases.
  • Understand the philosophy of the RINA architecture, and use it to design a customized IoT protocol for the relevant TERMINET project use cases.
  • Implement the IoT RINA-based protocols on terminals and gateways.
  • Carry out functional and performance evaluations.
  • Prepare and carry out oral presentations in technical and progress meetings.
  • Write technical reports
  • Represent i2CAT within the TERMINET project consortium, attending periodic progress calls, participating in virtual or physical meetings and leading i2CAT contributions to the project.

A powerful stochastic tool to assess the impact of the COVID-19 in Catalonia integrating detailed demographic and mobility data in the framework of the call "Replegar-se per créixer: l'impacte de les pandèmies en un món sense fronteres visibles” (PANDÈMIES 2020) 2020-PANDE-00180 of the AGAUR, through the l’Institut de Física d’Altes Energies IFAE to:

  • Develop a configuration of wireless devices able to gather contact tracing information.
  • Carry out functional and performance testing and validations.
  • Prepare and carry out oral presentations in technical and progress meetings.
  • Contribute to the final technical report.

The researcher will be part of the MWI (Mobile Wireless Internet) research area. The MWI team will provide the required training, supervision and guidance to the researcher.

Requisitos

Minimum requirements:

  • Master degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology or Computer Science.
  • Proven knowledge of networking protocols.
  • Proven knowledge of network configuration and analysis tools (e.g. wireshark, tcpdump).
  • Proven knowledge of networking in Linux OS and experience with Linux shell.
  • C language programming skills
  • Proven experience in IoT HW platforms, technologies or protocols.  
  • Motivation for research tasks and proactive attitude.
  • English language (advanced level, written and spoken).
  • Learning and documentation skills.

Desired requirements:

  • Interest in performing a PhD.
  • Programming skills in Python, C++ or shell scripts.
  • Experience in real IoT deployments and testbeds.
  • Experience in European Projects (actively involved)
  • Responsibility tasks in research projects
