The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Junior Digital Twin Engineer to join the V2X Research Line within the Mobile and Wireless Internet (MWI) group at i2CAT.
The concept of Digital Twin (DT) has been broadly adopted in the Industry 4.0, in the healthcare and in the Smart Cities. It represents a digital model of the reality where it is possible to test and evaluate different actions before implementing them into the real world. In the context of Smart City, the digital copy of the city includes the representation of the road infrastructure, vehicles, pedestrians, .... Its main objectives are to ease the road maintenance, to provide the means for mobility simulations, and to create traffic information management systems. The successful candidate will work in the development of a DT of a road infrastructure, as a section of a highway, that includes real-time information of the traffic flow, to simulate and to test traffic management policies.
In particular, the main tasks and responsibilities of the candidate will be:
The team of the V2X Research Line currently participates in several projects including:
The team of the V2X Research Line has proven experience in developing V2X communication stacks, leading for example the implementation of security in the popular Vanetza open-source V2X protocol stack (https://github.com/riebl/vanetza/pull/130).
The team of the V2X Research Line often executes high level end-user demonstrations of V2X and 5G concepts, e.g. (https://5gbarcelona.org/news/mercabarna-commits-to-5g-technology-in-order-to-prevent-accidents-at-work-with-industrial-vehicles/).
The team has also wide experience on vehicular simulators, such as Omnet++, SUMO and CARLA, and is used to work with state of the art V2X modules, 802.11p and CV2X, from main vendors.
Funded by the subprojects 6G public networks that integrate AI/ML functionalities to enable future V2X services (Reference TSI-063000-2021-29), Vehicle 6G Enablers for Road Operators (Reference TSI-063000-2021-30), 6G technologies for vehicle sensors (Reference TSI-063000-2021-31), and Vehicular digital twins enabled by 6G technology (Reference TSI-063000-2021-32) within the framework of the coordinated project 6G technologies that allow the creation of digital twins for connected and autonomous mobility (CAM) on the roads, by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and by the European Union-NextGenerationEU, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Recovery and Resilience Facility, in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 1040/2021, of 23 November, regulating the direct granting of a subsidy to public research centres and foundations and Spanish public universities to carry out innovative projects in the deployment of advanced 5G and 6G technologies.
