Job description

i2CAT Foundation is opening a position to advance in the research field of AI driven video and images technologies who is eager to get involved in exciting Research and Innovation projects which are part of the Horizon Europe framework, as well as Catalan and Spanish research programs. The suitable candidate will join the Media & Internet Area (MIA) research area. This area holds expertise in media processing and networked technologies, with a specific focus on immersive technologies  such as VR, AR, 3D and Volumetric Video. Our team is an active player in the European research ecosystem.

The research will be focusing on the design and development of AI based technologies for 2D and 3D/volumetric data. Particular importance will be given to i) Neural 3D Reconstruction and enhancement (super-resolution, occlusions removal, camera calibration, NeRF) and ii) neural based volumetric video compression (autoencoders, CNN, DNN for 3D video compression). 

The ideal candidate has experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • Image and Video Processing
  • Video Coding (particularly relevant for 3D video and/or point clouds)
  • 3D video Processing (calibration, reconstruction)
  • AI and Neural based image and video processing

Other relevant requirements include:

  • Solid C/C++ programming and software design skills. Python experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of graphic engine (Unity, Unreal)
  • English professional proficiency
  • Communication skills (writing and presenting)
  • Team work

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of Deep Learning / Machine Learning (i.e., architecture, mathematics, datasets and intuition behind).
  • Experience with any of the Deep Learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Jax, Caffé, Keras, etc.).
  • Strong C/C++ programming and software design skills. Python experience is a plus.
  • Enjoy working on both Research & Development related activities.

Other relevant requirements include:

  • Programming skills (Unity, C#, C++, Python)
  • Hardware and electronics skills (RGBD and/or lightfield cameras knowledge)
