Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a researcher who is eager to get involved in exciting Research and Innovation projects which are part of the Horizon Europe framework, as well as Catalan and Spanish research programs.

The suitable candidate will join the Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI) research area. This area holds expertise in AI, Deep Learning and Disitrbuted Data Infrastuctures; and applies this knowledge in the verticals of mobility, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, sustainability, media entertainment, ambient intelligence and cybersecurity. Our team is an active player in the European research ecosystem.

The selected candidate will start out working on the following European Horizon projects side by side with our European partners:

TEADAL: the ambition of TEADAL is to provide key cornerstone technologies to create stretched data lakes spanning the cloud-edge continuum and multi-cloud federations, providing privacy, confidentiality, and energy-efficient data management. DAI will be involved in developing AI algorithms to improve the energy efficiency of the data flows, as well as develop AI/ML applications for the pilots and use cases of the project in exciting verticals such as Industry 4.0, Smart Mobility, Healthcare and Agriculture.

CODECO: the goal of CODECO is to provide a highly adaptive cognitive edge-cloud framework with a unique orchestration approach that supports governance of decentralised data workflows; dynamic offloading of computation and adaptive networking services. In this project, DAI will lead the development of the component responsible for analyzing context-information that will enable the system's adaptability, through privacy preserving Distributed / Federated learning approaches.

Principal tasks

  • Plan and execute cutting-edge research to advance the state-of-the-art.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and engineers in developing R&D prototypes and solutions.
  • Participate in the writing and editing of project documentation and deliverables.
  • Participate in the writing and editing of scientific publications.
  • Plan the activities that will be performed during the projects, define the resources needed, and help supervise the technical execution.
  • Work together with the colleagues in DAI, other research areas, and the collaborating partners to deliver proofs of concept and documentation of the product that meet the desired standards.
  • Prepare project proposals for EU and national calls.
