Job description

The Media Internet Research Area of the i2CAT Foundation is currently working on different R&D lines focusing on:

  • Real-time holographic communications 
  • Processing of immersive content (i.e., light fields and volumetric video)

We are opening a Senior Computer Graphics Researcher position, focused on exploring VR/AR/XR rendering and processing techniques. You will work with a team of researchers, developers and engineers designing the next cutting edge real-time immersive technologies that will be delivered within national and european projects.

Your responsibilities:

  • Bridge IA and CG skills to solve multiple challenges in our current volumetric video pipelines (camera calibration, image supersampling, volumetric video coding and others)
  • Development of GPU based implementation techniques 
  • Integration of the developed solutions with third party libraries and applications
  • Optimization of existing solutions
  • Work together with a team of researchers, developers and engineers
  • Collaborate with an international team of partners developers
  • Support and lead research and standarization activities

Your Skills:

  • Extensive C/C++ programming experience
  • Experience in multi-thread programming
  • Experience in developing computer graphics applications
  • Knowledge of concepts as VR, AR, light fields, volumetric video, stereo and 360º video
  • English professional proficiency
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, make-it-happen, lead-by-example attitude
  • Keen to learn new technologies and gain new skills

Nice to have:

  • GPU implementation skills 
  • Knowledge of one, or more, among CUDA, OpenCL, DirectX
  • Knowledge of networking and transmission of media services
  • C# programming experience
  • Unity and/or Unreal

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements: 

  • PhD in Computer Graphics or equivalent professional experience
  • Programming experience in C# and C++
  • Experience in multi-thread programming and developing computer graphics applications
  • Knowledge of concepts as VR, AR, light fields, volumetric video, stereo and 360º video
  • English professional proficiency
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, make-it-happen, lead-by-example attitude
  • Keen to learn new technologies and gain new skills

Desired requirements: 

  • GPU implementation skills 
  • Knowledge of one, or more, among CUDA, OpenCL, DirectX
  • Knowledge of networking and transmission of media services (video codecs, ffmpeg, gstreamer)
  • C# programming experience
  • Unity and/or Unreal
  • Experience with Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.)
