Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is leading the implementation of the Catalan NewSpace Strategy acting as a technical office for the Generalitat. The Space Communications Research Area of the i2CAT Foundation is looking for a candidate that joins our team and supports the Innovation director of the Space Communications area to conduct the strategy and lead certain related tasks is required.

 

Additionally, the candidate will also be involved in the different innovation activities with both the private and public sector to identify challenges and opportunities where NewSpace technology could be used. This responsibility will complement the research conducted in the Space Communications group, giving support to various R&D projects. This group is centered on contributing with new technology related to Internet of Things (IoT) over satellite systems, Satellite networks challenges, and Inter-Satellite Link interactions. 

As a summary, the tasks associated to this job are the following ones:

  1. Support the implementation of the Catalan NewSpace Strategy. Specifically the implementation of use cases merging both Space and non-space technologies.
  2. Identify challenges and opportunities in both the private and public sectors to apply NewSpace technologies related to the research conducted in the group.
  3. Support the business development department in the generation of analysis and  proposals.
  4. Oversee the implementation of certain innovation projects and coordinate the different stakeholders as a systems engineer.
  5. Support some research projects and satellite use case deployments.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements: 
Engineering degree in Aerospace, Aeronautics.

  1. Knowledge of systems engineering in the aerospace industry
  2. Good soft skills to manage customers and stakeholders: listening, assertiveness, etc.
  3. Analytical skills to solve problems and come up with innovative solutions and the capacity to justify and support them.
  4. Experience in the implementation of use cases using new Space technologies, specially in the use of IoT technologies from Space.
  5. At least one year of experience doing R&D in the New Space sector in Catalonia and Internationally

Desired requirements:

  1. MsC in Aerospace or Aeronautics. 
  2. Acknowledgement on satellite systems and architectures.
  3. Acknowledgement on other disruptive technologies: blockchain, internet of things, cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc.
  4. Acknowledgement on systems engineering tools: STK, model building, etc.
  5. Experience in mission concepts design.
  6. Software development experience is also welcome (Bash, Matlab, python).
  7. Open mind to learn and discover new concepts and technologies
  8. Experience with deploying ground infrastructures in remote locations
  9. Experience doing consulting for space projects. Helping clients define and requirements, as well as defining solutions and doing trade-offs to find the best suitable solution for their case.
