Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for an AI engineer who is willing to get involved in exciting Research and Innovation projects in the framework of the Horizon Europe, and the Catalan and Spanish research programs. 

The suitable candidate will join the research area of Distributed Artificial Intelligence. This area holds expertise in Computer Vision, ML, DL and optimization problems.

Our team is an active player in the European research ecosystem and participates as partners or subcontractors in other R&D projects. Our area also offers professional services to relevant industry and SMEs.

The selected candidate that will join i2CAT will work very closely with the research area of Space Communication since she/he will start working in the following projects in which we apply AI for the Satellites Constellations :

  • 6GSATNET: Contributions to the space segment – It's a R&D project funded by the Spanish UNICO6G program. We want to apply AI in this project to create a ML model capable of predicting when the satellites of a constellation of satellites will be able to stablish contact between them.
  • The second project is part of the NEW SPACE strategy of the Catalan Government. We want to develop a tool for automated planning and scheduling of tasks to be performed by the satellites that are part of a constellation.

She/He will develop the following tasks in the projects above listed, and in new projects that will arise.

  • Develop mathematical models describing satellites operations
  • Design, train and validate ML models
  • Define and solve optimization problems.
  • Analyze and discuss technical requirements with the clients and end users
  • Represent i2CAT at project meetings.
  • Participate in the writing and editing of the documents and deliverables associated with the projects

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements: 

  • MsC related to Artificial Intelligence or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in R&D projects
  • Deep knowledge of AI, Data Analytics and Mathematical Modelling techniques.
  • Analytical mind-set able to propose solutions to new and known problems and carry on research proactively
  • Proven experience with at least two of the following programming Languages: Python, Matlab, Java and C++.
  • Excellent English level, both written and oral.
  • Good communication skills.

Nice to have: 

  • PhD related to Artificial Intelligence or equivalent experience
  • Experience in leadership role in R&D projects.
  • Good publication record.
  • Experience with scientific proposal writing (e.g., H2020 proposals).
  • Professional level for Spanish and Catalan
