Job description

The I2CAT Foundation is looking for a post-doc researcher to apply for a MSCA Fellowhip. More information about MSCA Call here.

The research community and industry are devoting major efforts on enabling a new generation of interactive and distributed media systems, strongly relying on ultra high quality immersive media formats, and/or rich interaction modalities. Relevant examples include Virtual/Augmented/eXtended Reality (VR/AR/XR) scenarios, volumetric/holographic conferencing, and interactive shared experiences toward the so-called Metaverse.

i2CAT (Barcelona, Spain) is opening a postdoctoral position to advance the research field in  networked immersive systems. The research will be focused on the design, development and evaluation of beyond state-of-the-art technological solutions (architectures, protocols, techniques, algorithms…) for the adaptive, scalable and interoperable real-time delivery of immersive media content, with a key focus on volumetric video, and addressing one-to-many and many-to-many scenarios.

The ideal candidate masters one or more of the following research fields:

  • Adaptive Delivery Protocols and Architectures
  • Multi-party (e.g. conferencing) and massive communications (e.g. streamed events)
  • Media Synchronization (inter-source and inter-client synchronization)
  • Immersive Media Encoding / Decoding
  • Network-based media processing
  • XR Orchestration (toward the Cloud Continuum)
  • Quality of Service (QoS) / Quality of Experience (QoE)

It is expected that the work to be carried out will result in high-quality prototypes, scientific publications and even potentially standard-compliant contributions. The candidate will be integrated with an experienced cross-disciplinary team, and will closely interact with relevant industry and academic partners under the umbrella of national and European projects.
