Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Professional IoT Engineer to join the IoT Research Line within the MWI group.

The successful candidate will join one of the projects of the MWI group to work on the implementation and development of IoT solutions and their evaluation in real environments. The project offers the possibility of researching and working on cutting-edge IoT technologies and solutions from a very applied point of view.

Specifically, the person will work on the evolution of precise location and traceability solutions through UWB developed by the group and its application in industrial environments and large spaces.

His/her tasks will be:

  • SW/FW development and implementation of IoT prototypes.
  • Integration of the location solution with third-party equipment.
  • Deployment of experimental testbeds for the validation of prototypes under real conditions.
  • Development of tools and scripts for the evaluation and monitoring of the operation of the deployed system.
  • Research, proposal and development of improvements in terms of scalability, precision and deployment of the solution.
  • Research and application of UWB technology in mobile terminals for the location of people.
  • Attendance at meetings with other project partners.
  • Preparation of reports and technical documentation.
  • Collaboration with the rest of the members of the MWI group.  

It is expected that the selected candidate will have the capacity to work quite autonomously and gradually acquire responsibilities.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requeriments:

  • Degree in Telecommunications or Computer Science.
  • 2 years of experience in research activities or in the private sector
  • Accredit programming knowledge in C/C++ and Python.
  • Accredit knowledge of Linux system management.
  • Accredit basic knowledge of wireless communications.
  • Accredit experience in IoT prototyping.
  • Accredit basic knowledge of laboratory equipment (power analyzers, oscilloscopes, power sources).
  • Ability to work autonomously, proactively and responsibly.

Desired requeriments:

  • Master's degree in Telematics or Electronic speciality.
  • Interest in the realization of a doctorate.
  • Accredit knowledge of wireless communication networks by IoT. For example, a final degree project in these topics. Knowledge in UWB technology will be especially valued
  • Accredit programming knowledge of IoT platforms.  For example, a final degree project.
  • Knowledge of IoT hardware or electronic circuit design.
  • Demonstrate developments on their own initiative (e.g. Github account with public projects)
  • Experience in network analysis tools (wireshark, tcpdump, sniffers).
  • Experience in data analysis tools (e.g. R)
  • References of work experience.
