Job description

The Software Engineering Group (SEG) at i2CAT is looking for a new Director that leads and manages the team. SEG activity is focused on the development of prototypes and technological proof of concepts for multiple innovation projects with customers, but also for competitive, international research projects granted through public funding bodies. SEG works in close cooperation with i2CAT research areas.

The main responsibilities of the position will be:

  • Manage a team of 10-15 people, that works in multiple projects, using multiple development languages and tools.
  • Work with the Business Development areas and the pre-sales team to understand customer requirements and prepare innovation project proposals
  • Work with the Research Areas of i2CAT to understand their needs in public research projects and work together to develop the required software prototypes and PoCs
  • Technical coordination of selected projects
  • Provide technical guidance and advice on software architecture to the team members
  • Plan the tools and infrastructure required for the team
  • High-level planning of projects and personnel, with the help of a dedicated Scrum Master

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements

  • 2 years of experience managing software development teams
  • 3 years of experience in software development using at least two different programming languages, including software architecture and technical responsibilities
  • Customer-oriented mindset
  • Good planning skills
  • Fluency in English

Desired requirements

  • Engineering degree
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks and methodologies like Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment methodologies and tools
  • Experience in Cloud native environments and tools
  • Basic knowledge of network protocols and architectures
