Job description

The I2CAT Foundation is looking for a post-doc researcher to apply for a MSCA Fellowhip in order to advance the research field in IoT technologies. More information about MSCA Call here.

The selected candidate will work on an internal project focusing on location of moving assets in dense environments with NLOS situations. Concrete targets of the project include:

  • Analyze IoT technologies and mechanisms for enhanced location and positiong in indoor and outdoor environments
  • Study and characterize the capabilities and limitations of UWB technology and implementations for positiong
  • Analyze the possibilities of UWB technology in smartphone devices
  • Study and propose enhanced solutions for improving accuracy in NLOS conditions.
  • Study and propose mechanisms for enhanced scalability
  • Propose enhanced mechanisms for the automatic placement and setup of the location infrastructure
  • Analyze the capabilites and limitations of GPS-RTK in outdoor environments, e.g. in urban areas.
  • Work on hybridization techniques for enhanced location.
  • Study and propose techniques for cooperative positioning

As part of his/her regular work the researcher is expected to:

  • Represent i2CAT at EU and national project meetings
  • Define algorithms and protocols applied to wireless technologies
  • Generate patent ideas
  • Generate results and lead scientific publications
  • Make technical presentations
  • Implement and experimentally validate IoT prototypes in real scenarios. Requires expertise on Linux, microcontrolers, hardware integration and IoT stacks

Indicative timeline

  • 22 June 2021: Launch of the call for proposals

  • April 2022: First EU-funded projects start (TBC)

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • PhD in communication networks. Preferably related to positiong techniques or wireless IoT technologies including UWB and BLE
  • Good publication record
  • Proven experience in working with wireless IoT technologies including UWB, BLE or LPWAN.
  • Proven experience developing IoT prototypes and testbeds applied to real use cases/scenarios (HW and SW)
  • Proven experience developing with major programming languages: C/C++, Python
  • Proven experience developing algorithms or protocols

Nice to have:

  • Proven experience in Linux OS
  • Proven experience working with IoT Stacks
  • Proven experience working in technology transfer projects
  • Proven experience in Kalman Filters and inercial sensors
  • Knowledge of GPS technology
  • Knowledge of statistical computing tools such as R
