Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Senior Researcher to join our Media Internet department.

Since the last decade, the video research community and industry are strongly focusing on immersive technologies. Relevant examples include Virtual/Augmented/eXtended Reality (VR/AR/XR) scenarios, volumetric/holographic conferencing, and interactive shared experiences. These technologies typically involve advanced capturing systems and representation formats, such as Free Viewpoint and Multiview Video, Light-field, and Volumetric Video, which are all becoming increasingly relevant. In the context of distributed and interactive eXtended Reality (XR), Signal Processing techniques become essential to improve the performance and quality along many different processes and requirements of the end-to-end systems, including: Computer Vision, Content Fusion, Content Encoding, and Content Rendering.

The selected researcher will be working on the design, development and evaluation of next-generation interactive and immersive networked services, addressing both technological and User eXperience (UX) aspects.

The main responsibilities of the researcher will be:

  • Technical management within the scope of national and European projects, with a key focus on the RIS3 ViVIM project
  • Lead technological developments in the field of networked services, with a key focus on multi-party scenarios and immersive video technologies
  • Lead and plan evaluation methodologies for the technologies and experiences under development
  • Co-lead the research strategy and roadmap of the Media Internet department
  • Contribute to the participation in national and international consortia, increasing the network of contacts and funding opportunities for the Media Internet department
  • Maximize the visibility and impact of the Media Internet department in international conferences and journals
  • Co-Supervision of BsC, MsC and PhD students belonging to the Media Internet department

Candidates should prove an experienced track record of publications, and ideally participation in research and industry projects.
