Job description

Our Mobile Wireless Internet (MWI) research area is looking for a Senior 5G Researcher willing to get involved in two exciting Research and Innovation projects.

 

The researcher will be involved in two projects:

  • The H2020 5G project 5GMED (https://5gmed.eu/), contributing expertise in mobile network architecture. The researcher will be involved in a railways use case where a high speed train provides 5G connectivity services to passengers while roaming between 5G networks in Spain and France.
  • Affordable5G (https://www.affordable5g.eu/), where the MWI group is developing an O-RAN non-real time controller, supporting policy provisioning and enabling Machine Learning applications.

As part of his regular work the researcher is expected to:

  • Represent i2CAT at EU and national project meetings
  • Define algorithms and protocols applied to wireless technologies
  • Generate patent ideas
  • Generate results and lead scientific publications
  • Make technical presentations
  • Work with network prototypes. Requires expertise on Linux networking stack

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • PhD in communication networks. Preferably related to wireless technologies inlcuding LTE/5G and 802.11
  • MsC in electrical engineering or computer science
  • Proven experience in working with wireless technologies LTE/5G, 802.11
  • Good knowledge of mobile network architecture
  • Proven experience developing networking prototypes
  • Proven experience developing with major programming languages: C/C++, Python, Java

Nice to have:

  • Proven experience developing with open source radio or core network frameworks (e.g. Openairinterface, srsLTE, open5gs, magma)
  • Experience with the O-RAN framework and releases (e.g. Bronze or Cherry releases)
  • Good publication record
