Discipline: R&DSince the last decade, the video research community and industry are strongly focusing on immersive technologies. Relevant examples include Virtual/Augmented/eXtended Reality (VR/AR/XR) scenarios, volumetric/holographic conferencing, and interactive shared experiences. These technologies typically involve advanced capturing systems and representation formats, such as Free Viewpoint and Multiview Video, Light-field, and Volumetric Video, which are all becoming increasingly relevant.
i2CAT (Barcelona) is opening a media engineer position to advance the research field in immersive technologies. The research will be focused on the design, development and evaluation of 3D volumetric image transmission techniques for interactive VR/AR/XR scenarios.
The ideal candidate masters one, or more, of the following research fields:
It is expected that the work to be carried out will result in high-quality prototypes, scientific publications and even potentially standard-compliant contributions. The candidate will be integrated with an experienced cross-disciplinary team, and will closely interact with relevant industry and academic partners under the umbrella of national and european projects.
Candidates should prove an experienced track record of publications, and ideally participation in research and industry projects.
In addition to the technical work, the candidate will be responsible of those pilot actions and demos where i2cat will showcase the VIVIM contributions.
The researcher will be integrated with the Media Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT, and will be provided with the required guidance and training.
