Institution:

ALBA is the Spanish 3-GeV synchrotron radiation facility operated by the Consortium CELLS, which is equally funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Economía y Competividad) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament d'Economia i Coneixement). The ALBA experiments division currently operates eight beamlines and other four are being commissioned or constructed.

Tasks
The ALBA synchrotron operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for about 6000 h/year. After the appropriate training, the appointed candidate to Floor Coordinator (FC) will participate in the shift operation of the Facility according to the existing planning.
The successful candidate will join the existing group composed of five staff which has the following main tasks:
During shifts
- The FC will carry out survey activities within the Experimental Hall. The work includes visually checks that the equipment in the experimental hall operates correctly: no alarms are activated, no leaks of fluids, no unusual noise, etc.
- The FC will support on-going experiments on beamlines and laboratories which includes basic control troubleshooting, basic scientific equipment troubleshooting, basic vaccuum troubleshooting, and support for experiments preparation (e.g. refilling cryogenic dewars, prepare conditions for experiments, etc)
- The FC will ensure that all the safety regulations are met in the on-going experiments.
- The FC will support the operator in the ALBA control room.
- The FC will document all the intervention and create new protocols of troubleshooting for recurrent problems.
Not shift activities
Approximately half of the FC working time will not be shift-based, during this time the FC will exclusively give support to beamlines, the main tasks will be:
- Support the beamline staff in the preparation of new experiments; this includes 3D CAD design and production with manual milling machine, manual lathes and 3D printers of small pieces and assemblies for sample environment at the beamlines and laboratories.
- Assembly and test of instrumentation including high precision mechanics, vacuum systems and cryogenics.
- Vacuum-related tasks: including pumping vacuum chambers, preparation of bake-outs and testing the system using helium leak detectors and RGAs.
- Cryogenics-related tasks: including refilling liquid nitrogen dewars, refilling equipment with liquid helium.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Qualifications and experience
The candidate should hold a technical or scientific degree or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Requirements:
- Able to work in shifts.
- Good interpersonal skills, adaptability to a multidisciplinary environment, sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work in team as well as independently.
- Skills in operating and controlling instrumentation (scientific or technologically challenging).
- Skills in mechanical design 3D CAD
- Production of mechanical pieces with manual milling machines, lathes and 3D printers.
- Computer skills
- Good level of English.

Assets:
- Experience with vacuum, cryogenics etc.
- Experience working at large scientific facilities.
- Advance computer skills
- Experience in safety regulations and/or implementing safety guidelines.
- Spanish and Catalan knowledge.

Period
The open job offer is a long-term temporary contract due to the current Spanish regulation.

Salary
Yearly gross salary according to the existing salary scale for this group and the experience of the candidate. The contract includes a test period of six months.
