The consortium for Construction, Equipment and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Laboratory
(CELLS) is jointly funded by the Spanish Government through its Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad
(Ministry of Economy and competitiveness) and the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Autonomous
Government) through its Departament d’Universitats, Recerca i Societat de la Informació
(Department of Universities, Research and Information Society).
The accelerator was commissioned in 2011 and the Beamlines started official operations in May 2012.
The installation operates 24/6, about 6000 hours a year. The control and data acquisition systems for
all beamlines use common tools and reuse most hardware and software. However every beamline and
laboratory requires particular developments for fast data acquisition and on-line data analysis.

The computing and controls division counts with 50 staff members.
Function:
- Provide guidance in identifying and defining data requirements and offer solutions for the
experimental data processing, adapted to the needs of each particular Beamline and technique.
- Interface with other sections, divisions and offices, as well as with other institutes. Build and
maintain fruitful relationships between different internal groups, clients and other international
facilities.
- Work together with the groups in charge of data acquisition and data storage, archive and retrieval,
as well as with the user office portal to implement processes, workflows and solutions according to
the data policies.
- Provide support for several services related to online data processing systems and offline data
analysis, in particular to the Beamlines during operation.
- Responsible for adherence to technical standards and policies.
- Participate in internal, national and international projects as required by the strategic plans.
Qualifications:
- Software engineer, telecommunications engineer, physicist or equivalent.
- Proven programming skills in any of C, C++, Python, or Java.
- Experience in managing data and associated metadata, data formats, such as HDF5.
- Experience in data processing and analysis techniques, algorithms and applications, in interactive
modes and in high performance computing clusters
- Experience designing human machine interfaces.
- Experience in project and team management.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience working in international environments will be an asset.
- Experience working in light or neutron sources will be an asset.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems such as ISPyB and metadata catalogues
such as ICAT would be an asset.
- Experience in Packaging, Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery will be considered an asset.
- Experience in Tango and Sardana supervision and control systems; Beamline control and data
acquisition; Scrum and Prince2 project management will be considered an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills and capabilities to work in a group, as well as to work independently
for some tasks.
- The working language at ALBA is English. A good level of English both written and spoken is
required.
