Work modality: On siteCima Universidad de Navarra is a biomedical research institute of the University of Navarra, located in Pamplona, Spain. Cima's research in cellular and molecular biology, disease models and innovative technologies has a deep translational patient orientation and aims to address unmet medical needs.
We have funding (FPI) to cover a PhD student (3+1 years) associated to the project "Identification and analysis of stress microproteins relevant for cancer progression" funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICIU 2024 I+D PID2024-162742OB-I00). The candidate will study how the stress that impacts cancer cells is a trigger that allows the selection of oncogenic microproteins. The aim is to identify and study such microproteins to develop novel anticancer treatments.
The Fortes lab (https://cima.cun.es/en) aims to develop biotechnological tools based on artificial or natural long non-coding RNAs and derived microproteins. We work to select, identify, and perform functional studies with the identified RNA or microproteins with the final aim of developing novel RNA therapeutics with a special focus on liver cancer.
We have a network of outstanding collaborators to expand our expertise from the bench to preclinical models and to the clinical setting. The successful candidate will work on a cutting-edge experimental research project that moves from bioinformatic studies and cutting-edge molecular biology techniques (RiboSeq, immunopeptidomics, CRISPR screens, spatial transcriptomics, proximity-ligation proteomics), towards cellular validations and preclinical models. The project will be developed in close collaboration with experts in bioinformatics, proteomics, immunologists, experts in stress and medical doctors from CIMA, CUN and different European countries, and will involve regular communication and scientific exchange with the collaborators. The main working location will be CIMA, an international research institute with a burning scientific environment.
