Job description

The Space Communications Research Group from i2CAT is advancing novel satellite communications technologies that enable emerging applications in 5G/IoT domains. This position focuses on developing robust IoT gateway systems that make use of non-terrestrial networks.
The IoT gateway will serve as critical infrastructure for connecting distributed sensor networks with satellite communication systems, particularly in remote locations where traditional connectivity is unavailable. The gateway will need to handle multiple communication protocols and provide reliable data aggregation and forwarding capabilities.

Tasks and responsibilities of the candidate will be:

  • Design, develop and implement IoT gateway firmware and software using embedded microcontrollers
  • Integrate multiple digital communication protocols (SPI, CAN, I2C) for sensor interfacing
  • Develop Linux-based gateway applications for data processing and satellite communication
  • Design and validate antenna integration and RF performance for satellite connectivity
  • Implement power management systems for remote deployment scenarios
  • Generate comprehensive development documentation and technical reports
  • Participate in field deployment and testing of gateway prototypes
  • Collaborate in defining IoT gateway specifications for emerging satellite IoT use cases
