Junior Engineering position to investigate in the NTN AI-based GNSS-free operations

i2cat Foundation is looking for a Junior Engineer to join our Space Communications (SpaceComms) Research Group.

The SpaceComms area is investigating different research lines related to Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN). Among them, the integration of satellite and network operations in one of the activities. Currently, satellite operations differ from the network ones, due to the nature of these in-orbit systems. Satellites typically are operated following task schedules, while networks are operated reacting to the traffic behavior. These two approaches need to be integrated. 

An approach to perform this integration is to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI). Specifically, mechanisms to simplify the operations (like an autopilot) or provide autonomy to the satellite are interesting technologies to be investigated. 

As a summary, the tasks associated to this job are the following ones:

- Review the state-of-the-art about satellite and network operations

- Compose scientific papers for journals and conferences

- Investigates on the integration of AI to support satellite operations

- Investigate the integration of GNSS service with NTN

The candidate will be responsible to explore the integration of AI in the satellite operations, and the deployment of GNSS service from NTN infrastructure.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office one day per week to stay connected with your team and to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.
