Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Project Engineer to work on the 6GTWINROAD project with the Mobile Wireless Internet team.

Vehicule-to-Everything (V2X) services are new features in 5G network intended mainly to enhance road safety. However, the nature of V2X traffic is very dynamic and may lead to unbalanced cell loads, where some cells will be highly loaded while others can have many available free resources. In order to use efficiently the resources, network status and behavior can be very useful. Therefore, the availability of real-world dataset of mobile network KPIs helps investigators to understand network behavior and enable them to extract patterns that enables the construction of network digital twins. The latter can be used to design more efficient radio resource management techniques.

The objective of the internship is to develop AI-based mechanism to continue analyzing the operator dataset and exploit it to develop different algorithms that enhance the performance of V2X applications.

The Project Engineer will join the Mobile Wireless Internet (MWI) team working on the development of the AI-based Radio Resource Management (RRM) algorithms.

The selected candidate will be responsible of:

  • Generating patterns of periodicity from the KPI dataset available in the project using ML techniques.
  • Designing new RRM algorithms for V2X scenarios based on the learned patterns.
  • Evaluating the proposed solutions using simulation (e.g., MATLAB, Python, SUMO).

The project will be divided into four steps:

  1. Review existing state of the art.
  2. Extract patterns from the KPI dataset.
  3. Propose new RRM algorithms for V2X scenarios.
  4. Evaluate the proposed solutions.
