Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for an Senior AI research engineer who is willing to get involved in exciting Research and Innovation projects in the framework of the Horizon Europe, and the Catalan and Spanish research programs. 

The suitable candidate will join the research area of Distributed Artificial Intelligence. This area holds expertise in Computer Vision, ML, DL and optimization problems; and applies this knowledge to the verticals of ambient intelligence, mobility, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, first responders, health, sustainability and cybersecurity.

Our team is an active player in the European research ecosystem and participates as partners or subcontractors in other R&D projects. Our area also offers professional services to relevant industry and SMEs.

The selected candidate that will join i2CAT will start working in the following project side by side with our Catalan and European partners:

  • IA VOZ – It is a project that i2CAT does for an electronics company. It consists in developing a set algorithms that can detect keywords and voice commands from live audio records. These algorithms will need to be deployed in an edge device.
  • Tractor AINA - It is a project that i2CAT does for the Generalitat. It consist in developing a set of algorithms to extract words from databases to be used to train a keyword spotting in Catalan.

She/He will develop the following tasks in the projects above listed, and in new projects that will arise.

  • Participate in technological developments of R&D solutions.
  • Analyze and discuss technical requirements with the clients and end users
  • Participate in the writing and editing of the documents and deliverables associated with the projects
  • Engage in the search and application process for funding and grants
  • Work together with the colleagues of the Artificial Intelligent area, other research areas, and the collaborating partners to deliver a proof of concept and documentation of the product that meet the desired standards.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or equivalent
  • Master in Artificial Intelligence or Computer Vision 
  • Knowledge in Natural Language Processing projects
  • Deep knowledge of AI, Data Analytics and Mathematical Modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of data engineering.
  • Analytical mind-set able to propose solutions to new and known problems and carry on research proactively
  • Proven experience with at least two of the following programming Languages: Python, Matlab, Java and C++.
  • Good English level, both written and oral.
  • Good communication skills.

Desired requirements:

  • PhD in Artificial Intelligence
  • Experience in R&D projects and in H2020 projects
  • Experience in writing proposals 
  • Experience in with fundraising 
  • Experience with LLM
  • Experience in Ambient Intelligence and speech recognition projects.
  • Experience in project planning, i.e.: define tasks, set goals, estimate effort, and describe deliverables.
  • Expertise in projects and tasks management in Agile tools (ex: Jira Altassian)
  • Professional level for Spanish and Catalan
