i2cat Foundation is looking for a PhD Student to work in a project about Reliable Localization Solutions for Autonomous Driving Services.
Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) has emerged to improve road safety, traffic efficiency and infotainment systems. With the growth of the connected vehicle technology, V2X is emerging as a key component for future autonomous driving services. In fact, vehicular communication enables many diverse advanced for which the reliability of the vehicles generated data is critical. A prominent example of the criticality of V2X communication systems is the vehicles instant location tracking and erroneous/false generation of localization reports, which could result in congestion, accidents, sanctions to wrong drivers, etc. One solution to the aforementioned challenge is the design of a secondary (cellular-enabled) tracking location system for vehicles. Such secondary system could be used to improve the current accuracy of Global Positioning System (GPS) in normal conditions and as a backup system in case of malfunctioning of the primary GPS-based system or even malicious attacks. Moreover, in indoor environments, where GPS systems are not available, such as parkings, the proposed secondary location system could be exploited to enable future advanced vehicular services.
This thesis will investigate, design and evaluate a cellular-based secondary localization system for 5G and beyond connected vehicles.
Who we are:

What do we offer?
Where will you do it?
At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.
If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.
Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.
i2CAT is an organization committed to equal opportunities. That is why we seek to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented, and therefore explicitly encourage the female collective to apply.
i2CAT is an organization committed to diversity and we seek to increase the number of people with disabilities in our team.
