Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Senior Big Data developer who is willing to get involved in exciting Research and Innovation projects in the framework of both, the H2020 European program and the ‘Tecnologies Emergents’ Catalan program.

The suitable candidate will work closely with our experts in Artificial Intelligence and Software Development to deploy the potential of the Big Data in these fields.

She/He will work in the following projects side by side with our Catalan and European partners:

  • BOOST4.0 is an H2020 European project that aims to connect the factories of the future to an International Data Space (IDS) and guide them in the introduction of the Big Data in their sectors.
  • FemIOT is a ‘Tecnologies Emergents’ project seeking to produce an IoT data valoritzation platform based in Apache technologies and to deploy on this platform some use cases in the fields of the sustainable energy and mobility.
  • Looming Factories is another ‘Tecnologies Emergents’ project that aims to provide secure data connectors to the factories 4.0 and a data marketplace in which the data will be shared and processed safely.

The successful candidate will develop the following tasks:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the trusted IDS data Connector element of IDS, customizing it to the Boost 4.0 environment. The data connector connects to internal datasources inside a company and makes this data available in a standardized (RDF, Linked Data), secured, authenticated and controlled fashion to selected data value chain partners.
  • Gather final the users’ requirements for an IoT data valorization platform.
  • Participate in the design of the architecture and the development of the data valorization platform based in Apache components (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, ActiveMQ, Sqoop, Flume, etc.)
  • Travel and participate in the project meeting with the Catalan and European partners few times a year
  • Follow up with the general projects status and deliver the required reports.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • MsC related to Big Data or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience with at least two of the following programming Languages: Python, Java and C++
  • Proven experience in databases management (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Proven experience in messaging technologies: Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ
  • Proven experience in OS-level virtualization and containerization: Docker
  • Knowledge of RDF/XML syntax and API Rest
  • Proven experience in Big Data and Hadoop ecosystem tools: Hadoop HDFS, Spark, Hive, Cassandra, Sqoop, Flume, etc
  • Excellent English level, both written and oral
  • Pro-active individual who can work with loosely defined goals
  • Good communication skills
  • Creativity and curiosity

 

 Nice to have:

  • PhD related to Big Data or equivalent experience
  • Fluent Spanish and/or Catalan
  • Proven experience with collaborative open source software development, specially following agile development methodologies
  • Knowledge about the International Data Spaces (IDS) framework
  • Experience in European Research projects
  • Successful track of papers in conferences and journals
  • Show developments done by your own initiative (i.e. Github account with public projects)
