V2X Research Line Manager

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Senior Researcher in order to join the Mobile Wireless Internet Research Area and lead the V2X research line.

In particular the researcher will take the lead of the V2X research line within the MWI groups, having as main goals:

• Development of the research strategy and roadmap of the V2X research line
• Definition of technological assets 
• Internal technical leadership of projects where the V2X reasearch line participates
• Support Horizon Europe project proposals dealing with V2X
• Support end customer project proposals dealing with V2X
• External technical leadership of R&D projects where the V2X research line participates (e.g. technical coordinator or WPL roles in H2020 projects). In particular the selected candidate will assume the technical coordination of one of the H2020 projects executed by the team.
• Lead scientific publications
• Collaborate with the technical leaders of the IoT and 5G research lines within the MWI group, as well as other technical leaders within i2CAT

The V2X research line currently participates in several projects including:

• The H2020 project CARAMEL project (https://www.h2020caramel.eu/)
• The H2020 5GMED project (https://5g-ppp.eu/5gmed/)
• The H2020 CPSosAware project (https://cpsosaware.eu/)
• The H2020 PLEDGER project (http://www.pledger-project.eu/)
• The Cervera INTEGRA network (https://i2cat.net/projects/integra/)
• Several private projects where the team is developing custom extensions to an ETSI G5 stack as well as applications running on top of the stack.

The V2X team has proven experience in developing V2X communication stacks, leading for example the implementation of security in the popular Vanetza open v2x stack (https://github.com/riebl/vanetza/pull/130). The team often executes high level end-user demonstrations of V2X and 5G concepts, e.g. (https://5gbarcelona.org/news/mercabarna-commits-to-5g-technology-in-order-to-prevent-accidents-at-work-with-industrial-vehicles/). The team has also wide experience on vehicular simulators, such as Omnet++, SUMO or CARLA, and is used to work with state of the art V2X modules, 802.11p and CV2X, from main vendors.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.
