ALBA is the Spanish 3-GeV synchrotron radiation facility (www.cells.es/en) operated by the Consortium
CELLS, which is equally funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Economía, Industria y
Competividad) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament d'Economia i
Coneixement). ALBA is currently operating 8 beamlines, expanding its capabilities with the construction
of four new beamlines and foreseeing additional evolution in the future. ALBA receives more than 1500
user visits per year, with an international ratio of 35%.
Function:
ALBA Scientific Director position is due to be filled in January 2019.
The Scientific Director is member of the Management Board
(www.cells.es/en/about/organization-governance), and Head of the Experimental Division. The Division
hosts more than sixty-five staff including Postdocs and Early Stage Researchers, covering fourteen
different nationalities.
ALBA Scientific Director non-exhaustive list of tasks includes:
- providing scientific leadership in ALBA, promoting an internationally competitive research program
and the advancement of the state of the art instrumentation including future beamlines,
- ensuring operation and user support keeping the highest safety standards,
- managing the Experimental Division staff and budget, including in-house research,
- promoting the industrial usage of the facility,
- further developing the level of collaboration with external institutions and sister facilities
- promoting the participation of ALBA in competitive national and international grants
Qualifications:
PhD in physics, chemistry, natural science or a related area with outstanding experience in
synchrotron-based research. Internationally recognized record of distinguished performance and leadership
in scientific research with synchrotron radiation. Documented experience in the management of large
scientific projects, departments or laboratories. Good interpersonal skill and experience in managing
teams. Fluency in spoken and written English is a must, knowledge of Spanish and Catalan is appreciated.
