Job description

The Cybersecurity research area of i2CAT is recruiting a Phd student willing to undertake a thesis in Network Forensic topics. The PhD thesis will take place in the dynamic research enviroment of the area at i2CAT, in collaboration with other Phd students, post-doctoral researchers and professors at the university. i2CAT has close collaborations with Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

During the doctoral studies, your missions will include:

  • The evaluation of existing techniques/technologies/solutions in the selected field of cybersecurity topic,
  • The identification of pertinent scientific locks to be overcome,
  • The elaboration of approaches to address them,
  • The definition and conduction of the validation and evaluation work,
  • The communication of obtained results to scientific communities.

Interested people are requested to send an expression of interest by submitting

  • a curriculum vitae, highlighting research & professional experiences,
  •  a cover letter exposing the motivation of the candidate to conduct a doctoral thesis,
  • a research statement (2-4 pages) detailing  motivation in conducting research thesis in a relevant Cybersecurity topic,
  • the official Transcripts of Records of all graduate studies. Possibly, with ranking, and
  • Optionally, some recommendation letters.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Keen interest in making telecommunication safer.
  • Masters or Engineering Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or CyberSecurity or relevant topics.
  • Sound understanding of network security, privacy, trust, network audit, network forensics, etc., concepts.
  • Proven hands-on experience in developing/extending security prototypes/tools/platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem solving skills.
  • Good technical writing, communication and presentation skills. Good spoken and written English.
  • Curiosity, autonomy, proactivity and open mindedness.

Desired requirements:

  • Previous experience in a research environment.
  • Existing scientific publications/patents.
  • Personal practice and interest in computer/Internet security.
