First Stage Researcher - Space Communications Group

The Space Communications Research group of the i2CAT Foundation is seeking a First Stage Reseracher to do its PhD in the topic of IoT/5G. The objetive for this thesis is to contribute to the future 6G NTN networks. For this purpose, it is intended to start a project to demostrate the benefits that satellite communications can offer to this sector and how they can be applied. In particular, two topics will be addressed: the design, development and evaluation of an IoT device whcich communicates with a LEO constellation; and the integration of satellite communications in the 5G architecture.

Tasks and responsabilities of the candidate will be:

•  Design, implementation and validation of software modules for embedded systems prototypes.
• Generate development reports and documentation for the performed work.
• Participate in the deployment of hardware prototypes throughout the territory.
• Participate in the definition of Satellite IoT solutions for new use cases.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.
