Job description

The Research and Innovation Policy and Strategy in Europe (RISE) area of the i2CAT Foundation is looking for a European Programmes Lead to join our team. 

 

This area is responsible for contributing to the definition of the long-term positioning of i2CAT in the research and innovation arena to sustain its growth and expansion and maximize its positive impact and return in society and economy.

Among the main tasks, the successful candidate will be exepected to:

  • Become a proactive member of the RISE team within i2CAT.
  • Lead the elaboration and continuous update of a map of funding opportunities in European programmes and the necessary matching and prioritization with i2CAT capabilities in the short-term and with a long-term strategic vision.
  • Lead the business development tasks related to i2CAT’s participation in European programmes, for example, establishing prospective meetings with potential partners covering both academia and industry.
  • Explore collaboration opportunities and synergies across all areas of i2CAT's. 
  • Foster and manage the participation of i2CAT in strategic proposals, providing strategic support for the definition of goals and scope.
  • Represent i2CAT in international associations or bodies of interest for i2CAT in order to establish a strategic positioning and capture future opportunities
  • Actively participate in events for networking and brokerage-like activities.
  • Proactively build and maintain a network of relevant contacts which contribute to positioning i2CAT in the European R&I Ecosystem.

The i2CAT Foundation is a non-profit research and innovation center that promotes mission-driven R&D activities on advanced Internet architectures, applications, and services. More than 15 years of international research define our expertise in the fields of 5G, IoT, VR, and Immersive Technologies, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, AI, and Digital Social Innovation. The center partners with companies, public administration, academia, and end-users to leverage this knowledge in order to meet real social and business challenges.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established ‘work-from-home’ policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We expect that you attend the office two days per week: one to stay connected with your team and another one to engage with other colleagues

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well-connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency. We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • PhD in Engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience securing funding for research activities (including national and European sources)
  • Excellent knowledge of R&I (inter)national funding ecosystem (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, Connecting Europe Facility, NSF, private foundations, CDTI, AEI, Acció, Spanish Ministries)
  • Experience in Horizon Europe grant writing
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Good european research contact network
  • Proven record in raising awareness of relevant funding opportunities amongst researchers with different levels of seniority and in different countries, including Spain

Nice to have:

  • Any other European language will be a plus
  • International experiences will be a plus
  • Good publication record
  • Previous experience leading research projects, including international partners and co-funding from industry will be valued
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing international strategic funding plans for Research Area leaders
  • Previous involvement in the design of international funding plans for research group leaders
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Experience working with Atlassian Suite (Jira / Confluence)
  • Experience in Catalan or Spanish Research centers / universities
  • Expertise as a proposal evaluator for EU R&I programmes
