Job description

The cybersecurity area of the i2CAT Foundation is looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer for the research and innovation area of cybersecurity at i2CAT

The open position will participate in international and national innovation projects responding to cybersecurity activities. Working directly with advanced digital technologies of relevance and leading cybersecurity organizations in Catalonia (i.e. Catalan Cybersecurity Agency) and international, for:

  • Participate in technological development in this field.
  • Build proof of concept based on disruptive ideas and technologies
  • Identify improvements in tools, technologies and processes in SOC's environments.
  • Participate in the drafting of technical documentation associated with the projects.

The candidate will join a mixed team of technologists and researchers whose mission is to develop and implement the roadmap of innovation and research in cybersecurity of i2cat and the projects with which it participates.

It's a unique opportunity to join a long-term project where actions directly impact the safety of people, institutions and companies, as well as to interact with the national and international ecosystem of research and innovation in cybersecurity.

A potential candidate who has engineering studies in telecommunications or computer science and pursuing a master's degree in cybersecurity will be considered as candidates who can demonstrate sufficient professional experience and knowledge (minimum 2 years). Years of experience in the cybersecurity sector are a valuable aspect but attitude and personality will be decisive. We are looking for a methodical, curious and proactive person.

More than 15 years of international research define our expertise in the fields of 5G, IoT,  VR,  and  Immersive  Technologies,  Cybersecurity,  Blockchain,  AI,  and  Digital  Social Innovation. The  center  partners  with  companies,  public  administration,  academia,  and  end-users   to leverage   this   knowledge   in   order   to   meet   real   social   and   business   challenges.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requeriments:

  • Telecommunications / Computer Engineering (or others such as Mathematics, Physics, etc.)
  • Experience in the design or analysis of system vulnerabilities, solutions and architectures in the field of cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of security technologies: Intrusion detection systems, fortification of operating systems and applications (hardening), and treatment of security events (Syslog, Netflow...).
  • Interest and basic knowledge in different technological fields (IoT, networks, Blockchain, ML, Big Data, TCP/IP, SDN)
  • Advanced GNU/Linux Systems Administration
  • Proactive, methodical and curious
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • 2 years of demonstrable experience in the field of cybersecurity.
  • Native Catalan and Spanish, High English
  • Knowledge in OpenStack, Terraform i Ansible

Desired requeriments:

  • Master's degree or postgraduate degree in Cybersecurity
  • Knowledge and experience in operational intelligence platforms such as Elastic or Splunk.
  • Knowledge of opportunities to improve cybersecurity tools and procedures
  • Experience in project management (Certifications will be assessed)
  • Reading and synthesis: being able to remove the most relevant information from each document.
  • Planning and ability to manage time well.
