The Space Communications (SpaceComms) Research Group is investigating different research lines related to Internet of Things (IoT) satellite communications and Inter-Satellite Link (ISL) interactions. In particular, the development of new communication protocols for satellite networks that provides IoT coverage becomes one of the main research topics of the group.
This development can be conducted using tools that enables to evaluate the novel solutions. One of those tools is a simulation engine that is able to simulate both satellites dynamics and satellite communications. The research group is working on the development of a simulation engine with this features. The candidate will be responsible to maintain current version of the engine, and extend it with new functionalities.
Additionally, the research group is also working in a Non-Terrestrial Network testbed that enables to evaluate and develop novel technologies. The candidate shall define this testbed, and the different components, as well as install them and develop supporting software to facilitate its usage.
Finally, the SpaceComm group is responsible for the development of IoT use-cases in the New Space catalan strategy. The candidate will work in the definition of the use cases, the development of the gateways that connect IoT sensors to a satellite, the processing of the achieved results, and their dissemination in scientific journals and conferences.
As a summary, the tasks associated to this job are the following ones:
> Understand the current design of the simulation engine
> Develop new capabilities in this simulation engine
> Maintain the repository of the simulation engine
> Define NTN testbed and develop additional required software
> Maintain the NTN testbed and propose novel features
> Contribute in the development of the IoT use-cases

What do we offer?
Where will you do it?
At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.
If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.
Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.
i2CAT is an organization committed to equal opportunities. That is why we seek to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented, and therefore explicitly encourage the female collective to apply.
