Job description

The i2CAT Foundation is looking for an AI engineer who is willing to get involved in exciting Research and Innovation projects in the framework of the Horizon Europe, and the Catalan and Spanish research programs. 

The suitable candidate will join the research area of Distributed Artificial Intelligence. This area holds expertise in Data Spaces, Computer Vision, ML, DL and optimization problems; and applies this knowledge to the verticals of ambient intelligence, mobility, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, first responders, health, sustainability and cybersecurity.

Our team is an active player in the European research ecosystem and participates as partners or subcontractors in other R&D projects. Our area also offers professional services to relevant industry and SMEs.

The successful candidate will develop the following tasks:

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the trusted IDS (International Data Spaces) data connector and IDS components, customizing them to the industry and mobility sectors.
  • Contribute to the definition, coordination and strategy of the Gaya-X mobility cluster
  • Participate in the design of the architecture and the development of the data valorization platform based in Apache components (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, ActiveMQ, Sqoop, Flume, etc.)
  • Participate in the definition of the Big Data research strategy of i2CAT
  • Lead tasks and work packages in European and Catalan coordinated projects
  • Travel and participate in the project meeting with the Catalan and European partners few times a year
  • Follow up with the general projects status and deliver the required reports.
  • Prepare research project proposals for competitive calls

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • MsC related to Big Data or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience with at least two of the following programming Languages: Python, Java and C++
  • Proven experience in databases management (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Proven experience in messaging technologies: Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ
  • Proven experience in Big Data and Hadoop ecosystem tools: Hadoop HDFS, Spark, Hive, Cassandra, Sqoop, Flume, etc
  • Excellent English level, both written and oral
  • Pro-active individual who can work with loosely defined goals
  • Good communication skills
  • Creativity and curiosity

  Nice to have:

  • PhD related to Big Data or equivalent experience
  • Fluent Spanish and/or Catalan
  • Knowledge about the International Data Spaces (IDS) framework
  • Experience in European Research projects
  • Experience in Catalan and Spanish R&D projects
  • Successful track of papers in conferences and journals
