Job description

I2CAT is looking for a telecommunications or computer engineer to work on research projects related to IoT technologies. The selected candidate will join the Mobile and Wireless Internet (MWI).

 

The successful candidate will join one of the MWI group projects to work on the implementation and development of IoT solutions and their evaluation in real environments. Specifically, the person will work on these topics:

  • IoT technologies for optimizing energy consumption: The hired person will work on the design, development, analysis and improvement of IoT solutions based on LPWAN communications in order to maximize the life of batteries and their application to real environments .
  • Precise location solutions based on hybridization of technologies applicable to indoor and outdoor environments: Work will be done to improve equipment developments based on location technologies such as visible light (VLP), radio frequency (such as UWB) and GPS- RTK.

 

Among the tasks to be performed by the candidate:

  • Development and implementation of SW / FW IoT prototypes
  • Deployment and validation of functional pilots in real environments.
  • Integration of equipment with remote platforms.
  • Participation in research, proposal and development of improvements in terms of consumption improvements, scalability, accuracy and deployment of solutions to be developed.
  • Development of tools and scripts for the evaluation and monitoring of the operation of prototypes.
  • Attendance at meetings with other project partners.
  • Preparation of reports and technical documentation.
  • Collaboration with the other members of the MWI group.

It is expected that the hired candidate will be able to work quite independently and gradually acquire responsibilities in some of the work packages of the project to be executed.

Where will you do it?

At i2CAT we already have an established telework policy for some time. You can work from home or from the office, whichever suits you best. We ask that you attend the office two days per week, one to stay connected with the team and the other one to establish relations.

If you decide to come to the office, we are located in Zona Universitària, next to the Campus Nord of the UPC, within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is a very well connected area (metro, tram, bus) with bars and restaurants around.

Our offices are designed with an open-office concept where everything is light and transparency (we do not have opaque rooms). We have a variety of workspaces so that you don't have to be at the same table all day.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Degree in telecommunications or computer science.
  • Proven knowledge programming knowledge in C / C ++ and Python.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Linux system administration.
  • Proven knowledge of GPS-RTK.
  • Proven knowledge in wireless technologies, especially in LPWAN networks.
  • Accredit practical knowledge in visible light communications.
  • Proven experience in prototyping and programming IoT platforms.
  • Ability to work autonomously, proactively and responsibly.

 

Desired requirements:

  • Master's degree in technology.
  • Accredit knowledge in UWB technology.
  • Demonstrate own-initiative developments (e.g. Github account with public projects)
  • Experience in network analysis tools (wireshark, tcpdump, sniffers).
  • Experience in data analysis tools (e.g. R)
  • Experience in research ecosystems
  • Experience with JIRA / Confluence
