Job description

The SDWN research line of the Mobile Wireless Internet group is looking for a professional researcher to work on advanced O-RAN and AI/ML architectures to support vehicular services.

The selected candidate will be responsible of:

  • Developing a simulator to evaluate RRM algorithms for vehicular services in 6G networks
  • Propose and evaluate the RRM algorithms discussed with other MWI researchers contributing to the project
  • Lead TWINROAD and TARGET-X deliverables where the developed algorithms are reported
  • Lead generation of scientific papers related to the developed algorithms
  • As needed, contribute to experimental testbed demonstration activities in the TWINROAD and TARGET-X projects.

Specifically the researcher is expected to work on:

  • Tailor O-RAN architecture components to support V2X application functions
  • Define radio resource management algorithms that can help alleviate mobile network congestions derived from traffic jams
  • Work on analyzing mobile network and vehicular datasets to derive resource management algorithms for vehicular applications
  • Implement and validate the proposed resource management algorithms by means of simulations
  • Contribute to generation of publications related to the developed algorithms and architectures
  • Support other team members in extracting KPIs from several vehicular testbeds available in the R&D projects where i2CAT is participating

The research will be carried out in the context of the Spanish UNICO TWINROAD projects, and in the context of the SNS TARGET-X projects. In both projects i2CAT is leading vehicular activities in a vehicular testing environment where a 5G network supporting experimentation is available.

Funded by the subproject 6G public networks that integrate AI/ML functionalities to enable future V2X services (Reference TSI-063000-2021-29) by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and of Civil Service and by the "European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR" within the call "UNICO-5G I+D: Programa de Universalización de Infraestructuras Digitales para la Cohesión - 2021"
