Job description

The Media Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT is seeking a RESEARCH ENGINEER, which expertise in Telecommunications, Telematics and Immersive Media.

The researcher will be involved in the VIVIM project, where i2CAT has to design, develop and evaluate technological solutions to enable interactive and immersive multi-party media experiences, in the context of Immersive TV and Social VR.

The researcher will need to carry out the following technical tasks:

  • Understand the identified requirements and selected use cases.
  • Develop media playout solutions for immersive content (360º video, 3D content, Point Clouds)
  • Develop interactive communication engines to exchange the immersive content and to enable multi-party experiences
  • Carry out functional and performance evaluations, as well as participate in the execution of subjective evaluations
  • Prepare prototypes and demos
  • Prepare and carry out oral presentations in technical and progress meetings.
  • Write technical reports.

In addition to the technical work, the candidate will be responsible of those pilot actions and demos where i2cat will showcase the VIVIM contributions.

The researcher will be integrated with the Media Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT, and will be provided with the required guidance and training.

This project has been co-funded by ACCIÓ (Agency for Company Competitiveness) - Generalitat de Catalunya.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Telecommunications, ideally with Telematics / Computer Networks specialization
  • Proven knowledge in Virtual Reality systems
  • Proven knowledge of networking protocols
  • Proven knowledge in immersive media formats
  • C#, Python and Javascript language programming skills
  • Motivation for research tasks and proactive attitude
  • English language (advanced level, written and spoken)
  • Learning and documentation skills

Desired requirements:

  • Proven experience in Quality of Service (QoS) evaluation
  • Proven experience in real immersive media systems deployments and testbeds
  • Proven experience in the development of media playout solutions for immersive media (360º players, Unity, web players…)
  • Proven experience in the development of accessibility solutions for media content
  • Experience in European Projects (actively involved), ideally on Immersive Media
