Job description

Our Mobile Wireless Internet (MWI) research area is looking for a Junior researcher for 5G MWI solutions willing to get involved in various exciting Research and Innovation projects.

 

The successful candidate will be involved in various EU H2020 projects:

5G-XHAUL (https://www.5g-xhaul-project.eu/), this project proposes a converged optical and wireless network solution able to flexibly connect Small Cells to the core network.

5GPICTURE (https://www.5g-picture-project.eu/), this project will develop and demonstrate a converged fronthaul and backhaul infrastructure integrating advanced wireless and novel optical network solutions.

5GCITY (https://www.5gcity.eu/), this project will design, develop, deploy and demonstrate, in operational conditions, a distributed cloud and radio platform for municipalities and infrastructure owners acting as 5G neutral hosts.

 

 As part of his regular work the researcher is expected to:

  • Developing solutions and algorithms proposed by the MWI team on the RAN controller platform
  • Developing SDN device agents running on embedded Linux platforms
  • Supporting demonstrations involving the RAN controller
  • Proposing new architectures, protocols or algorithms that can address the problems addressed by the team
  • Interacting with the other team R&D engineers that develop the RAN Controller platform

The researcher will be part of the Mobile and Wireless Internet (MWI) group at i2CAT.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • MsC in computer science or electrical engineering
  • Familiar with Linux system administration
  • Experience coding in Java, C, C++, Python
  • Good level of English

 

 Nice to have:

  • Experience developing REST APIs
  • Advance skils in Linux based network administration
  • Proven knowledge of wireless technologies, inlcuding LTE/5G, 802.11 and 802.11p
  • Experience working with SDN controllers including OpenDayLight or ONOS
  • Experience working with SDN south-bound protocols including openflow or Netconf
  • Experience in network automation solutions
