What we’re looking for

We are looking for a senior researcher for our Area of Social and Family Policies to carry out research and teaching activities in the Faculty of Education. 

Key responsibilities

  • To establish and/or lead a research group in the field of Social and Family Policies.
  • To obtain competitive subsidies.
  • To publish articles in high-impact journals.
  • To work as part of a team preparing and presenting scientific projects.
  • To provide quality education to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields related to the candidate’s speciality.
  • To administer and/or coordinate programmes as well as any other type of academic task assigned by the Faculty.

Selection process

In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded the UniversitatInternacional de Catalunya with an Excellence Award for Research in Human Resources, which ensures that candidates are selected purely on the basis of excellence criteria. The UIC Barcelona selection process involves:

  • An independent board of experts that assesses all applications and decides who will move onto the next stage. All members of this board are from outside UIC Barcelona.
  • A public oral defence by finalist applicants: a presentation about their career (both academic and teaching) and their research projects. Following the presentation, the examination panel will ask a series of questions to conclude the defence. The defence should last a total of 60 minutes.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in family and social policies.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ post-doctoral experience in teaching and research.

Assessment criteria

The following aspects of the candidate’s CV will be evaluated:

Knowledge and professional experience

  • The ability to carry out independent research. Particular attention will be paid to candidates with experience as a principal researcher, as well as those who have made valuable contributions in terms of scientific productivity as part of a research group led by another researcher. Research stays at prestigious international centres for Social and Family Policies will also be highly valued.
  • Experience teaching at university level.
  • Experience in academic management (such as programme coordination and management, experience writing reports and academic reports as well as research projects).
  • Experience teaching in English.

Competences

  • Understand and share the University’s mission, vision and values.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to supervise and guide undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
